FREE EKG SCREENING FOR STUDENTS

Dear Parents,

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occurs when the heart unexpectedly experiences an electrical malfunction, which leads to an irregular heartbeat. The use of pediatric electrocardiogram (EKG) is critical to help diagnose asymptomatic heart defects, which may not otherwise be evident. SCA can be the first sign of a heart condition, with over half of the children experiencing no symptoms at all prior to fatal cardiac arrest.
Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has created a life-saving initiative for children. The focus of this unique heart screening series is to create an awareness on the importance of pediatric heart screenings in an effort to identify children at risk of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).

Miami-Dade County Public Schools has enlisted the help of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to bring FREE EKG screenings to their students.

The voluntary heart screenings will conveniently take place at:

ROBERT MORGAN EDUCATIONAL CENTER – NOVEMBER 28TH

All girls participating in the screening are asked to wear a sports bra or camisole on that day. If your child will participate, all of the attached consent forms must be completed and returned to the school by NOVEMBER 28TH.

If you have any questions, please contact to contact your school.

Sincerely,

The Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention Program
